Pinsent Masons advises on major new infrastructure projects

2 February 2010

International Law Firm Pinsent Masons has been selected by regional development agency Advantage West Midlands to advise it on the set up of its Regional Infrastructure Fund (RIF).

The £40m fund will provide critical early infrastructure support to unlock key developments around the region, with £9.8million of funding having been approved for Wolverhampton's Interchange Project.

This appointment follows on the back of Pinsent Masons key role in advising the South West Regional Development Agency on the roll out of its RIF which aims to fund major infrastructure projects in the south west, examples included bridges, motorway improvements and railway stations.

In September 2008 nearly £61 million of infrastructure funds for development were announced, to encourage commercial property developers into the market, and a £13 million Regional Infrastructure Funding programme that will act as a catalyst to lever additional funding into projects that might not otherwise be delivered in current market conditions.

Property Partner Merle Wray leads the team on both of these projects and said:  "RIFs are a major new tool to unlock infrastructure that is holding back regeneration and economic development.  The projects we are working on have regional wide benefits which without RIF the current development market would not be able to sustain.  The aim with both funds is for investment to be recycled as schemes benefitting from the infrastructure come forward and reinvested in other infrastructure projects".
